Infrastructure Package 3

IP3: Intensive Observation Periods (Lead PI: Prof Alan Blyth, Leeds)

Core scientific objectives of IOPs:

  1. To establish the vertical structure of the urban boundary layer, and its spatial variability due to changes in land cover type and to measure downward mixing of regional air as pollutant source
  2. To determine diurnal evolution of boundary layer over urban surface
  3. To identify the biogenic species present in an urban background environment
  4. To measure radical species concurrent with their sources and sinks
  5. To assess the bulk physical and compositional properties of PM
